Resurgent Daniil Medvedev Secures Maiden Championship in Over Two Years

19 of the Russian's 21 victories have been achieved on hardcourt

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his initial championship for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition title decider.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has experienced a torrid season, winning just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the US Open.

The player's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in especial - caused him dropping out of the top ten and finally splitting with former mentor his previous coach.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily advanced in the past month - peaking in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over challenger Moutet.

This marks the player's maiden trophy since the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard surface since spring of that year.

Victory also signifies the Russian has achieved 21 championships at 21 different events.

"It's the first time I have attended a event with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a title is particularly special," stated ranked player Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had been defeated in his last six title deciders, including in the German tournament previously this season.

His retrieving approach and frequent reactions on court had caused observers to question if his capacity to play at the highest level was over.

But the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the past month, attempting to advance forward and perform positively, supported by an enhanced serve.

Medvedev recovered from a break down in the initial set against the challenging Moutet, taking 4 of the last five exchanges to go ahead.

Both players traded breaks in the second set before Moutet, striving for his maiden professional championship, seized the initiative to push for a final set.

He defended 4 initial opportunities in a tight deciding set before the Russian secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Fittingly, Medvedev earned the win with a point at the net, with his opponent unable to manage a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
